In Country: Marvel Comics’ “The ‘Nam” — Episode 4

The boys go into the brush for Episode 5 of “In Country,” which takes a look at issue #5 of “The ‘Nam.” Written by Doug Murray, penciled by Michael Golden, and inked by John Beatty, it’s “Humpin’ the Boonies,” a story that features events from June of 1966. As always, in addition to the summary and review of the issue I’ll be talking about the story’s historical context as well as taking a look at the letters, ‘Nam Notes, and ads.
A dear friend once said to me: “It’s a lot of fun when everyone’s a dork of some sort or another.” As I look back on my life as a dork, I realize that not only have I geeked out, but not in the right way. My taste, you see, isn’t great. But instead of hiding from that, I’ve decided to embrace it. Part commentary, part memoir, this is an exploration of my weird love for the obscure and for those things that sorta suck.
