3rd Degree Byrne Presents Cocktails & Comics: The Eleventh Round
Join Brian and Tim, two life long comic freaks, as they take a look at one of the quintessential comic book writer/artists of the last 40 years, John Bryne. Each […]
Everybody likes a new beginning right?
But do we like a reboot?
Hmmm. . . tricky.
After the Crisis on Infinite Earths, where worlds live, worlds died and nothing was ever the same, DC brought in John Byrne to reboot, revamp and revive Superman. A gargantuan task.
You know, I’ve always liked that word… ‘gargantuan’… so rarely have an opportunity to use it in a sentence. (Thanks Q)
Anyway, Byrne dove in and gave us, to start with, “The Man of Steel”, a six issue mini-series that would re-introduce us all to a Superman for the modern age.
No super-animals.
No other Kryptonians.
No Superboy.
No Phantom Zone.
No Fortress of Solitude.
A all new, all different Lex Luthor (thanks Marv).
And just one piece of Kryptonite.
“The Man of Steel” made a huge splash, it was all over the news, it had great sales and ushered in the Post Crisis era of comics for DC.
So here we are, 35 years later and we want to know, does it still hold up? 3rd Degree Byrne is proud to present our Man of Steel coverage, starting here with issues 1-3.
Tim Elliott, David Thompson, John Hijatt and Brian Hughes go through the first three issues, covering Superman’s Kryptonian beginnings, his growth in Smallville, his reveal in Metropolis and his first meeting with the Batman.
So sit back, grab some rhubarb pie, and enjoy, as 3rd Degree Byrne begins their coverage of “The Man of Steel”.
