This time out, Scott and Mike take a break from the day to day business here at "Tales" to begin their look at a mini-series that came out at the end of 1984 and told the COMPLETE HISTORY of the Justice Society of America!!

Now, as a straight up history it might be a little dry, so writer Roy Thomas hung the idea around a plot that sees Batman accuse the JSA of treason from beyond the grave!

The guys tackle the first two issues this episode and we see the accusation, the JSA in chains, and the trial begin! There are surprise witnesses, surprise villains, and, of course, a shadowy figure behind it all!

Next time: The Excitiing Conclusion as the history lesson wraps up and the Ultimate Villain makes himself known!

GOOD NEWS!! "America vs The Justice Society" is soon to be reprinted and you can pre-order it here -- America vs The Justice Society Trade Paperback

So, it's Black Friday as this episode goes live and, if you live in the United State,s chances are you are one of the thousands of people standing in line at three in the morning waiting for a chance to buy a television for $50 cheaper than you would normally be able to buy it. Thanksgiving dinner is sitting kind of funny and all you want is the kid behind you to just STFU about the fact that he needs to go to the bathroom. It's cold. You're tired. Life sucks at the moment.

Well, have no fear because Scott and Mike are here with another fantastic episode of "Tales"!

(If you live outside the US it is probably another Friday, in which case, HEY THERE'S A BRAND NEW EPISODE OF TALES FOR YOU!)

Anyway, this time out the guys talk about the books that came out with a December 1984 cover date.

In All-Star Squadron #40, the troubles in Detroit come to a head with Amazing Man finally having it out with The Real American while Johnny desperately wants a cup of coffee.

Then, in Infinity Inc. #9, Jade faces off against the man she believes is her father...GREEN LANTERN.

E-mails are read and Scott and Mike lead you through another Crisis Counseling session.

So, what are you waiting for...DOWNLOAD IT ALREADY!

Michael Bailey and Scott H. Gardner bring you yet another exciting installment of the show recently voted one of the 10 best on the internet!

"This is a true labour of love it seems. Michael Bailey and Two True Freaks’ Scott Gardner host this great little show. Tales of the Justice Society of America is a sort of issue by issue analysis of the Justice Society and associated characters since the 1970′s revival of All Star Comics. It covers All Star Comics 58-74, the Adventure Comics back up strips and around episode 31 it started looking at the All Star Squadron, a period piece set in the 1940′s of DC’s Earth 2 spotlighting the lesser known golden age heroes like Johnny Quick, Liberty Belle and Shining Knight as well as retconned characters like Firebrand and Commander Steel. The issues are reviewed and then there are tangents and related conversations, e-mails and a look at the adds, the highlight of which are the hostess fruit pies ads. If you don’t love the JSA by the start, you’ll be closer after the first episode."

Also -- Infinity, Inc. #8 features "The Generations Saga" barreling toward its exciting conclusion!

"Tales" is back -- and this time we brought damn near the entire DC Comics creative team (circa 1984) with us!!

This episode, the burning question of "why haven't you guys been addressing listener feedback?!" is discussed. Are they too busy? Are they too lazy? Maybe they can't read? Fear Not! All Will Be Revealed! Then, it is on to the Main Event!! All-Star Squadron Annual #3!

Didja ever wonder how all these heroes of World War II stayed so seemingly young and spry well into the 1980s and beyond? Well, Mike and Scott break down that story for you into convenient, bite-sized pieces. And, in the process, have lots and lots to say about the multitude of talent on this book. Writer Roy Thomas is joined by some of the top DC super-stars of the day for the handling of the art chores -- Jerry Ordway, Rick Hoberg, Richard Howell, Keith Giffen, Rich Buckler, Wayne Boring, Carmine Infantino, Don Newton, and George Perez -- just to name a few!!

(Incidentally, this is the Irredeemable Shag's favorite comic book story ever!)

We're Back!

First off, in the interest of full disclosure, Mike and Scott have had some serious technical difficulties of late! For one thing, Scott's computer went tango uniform. Some say that it was because it just got old. Others suggest that Scott's secret addiction to vodka and Red Bull got to him one night. In either case, his computer died. And as if that weren't bad enough, Mike has had one helluva tough time with the new website. Some say that it's because his ISP and the site don't get along. Others suggest that Mike's secret addiction to vodka and Red Bull is keeping him from posting stuff. In either case, Mike just can't get episodes to post from his set-up.

But things are better now. Betty Ford has entered the picture. Episodes should be more frequent.

Until then -- Are you ready for something that is so awesome it makes Roadhouse look lame? Then get ready for the seventy-fifth episode of "Tales"! In this show, Scott and Mike cover All-Star Squadron #35 and boy is this thing great! I mean, look at that cover! HOURMAN VS. BARON BLITZKREIG! It can't get better than that, can it? Nothing could ruin that, right? Not even the appearance of the lamest hero since Johnny Thunder? Who is this hero? Why is he so lame? Listen to the episode and find out already!

ENJOY!!

GET READY FOR THE EPISODE THE ICICLE HIMSELF DIDN'T WANT YOU TO HEAR!!!!

That's right, folks. This episode was finished and ready to go out the door when an ice storm hit the area where Mike lives and knocked out his power -- for three days!! One of those days was Friday, our normal release day, which means that the nefarious Icicle, long time villain of Justice Society, must have been responsible. It's the only explanation that makes any sense!

...or maybe it's winter and such things just happen... Either way, Scott and Mike are still blaming the Icicle.

Anyway, Welcome to the 74th episode of Tales!

The guys continue their look at both the past and the even-further-back-there past this time out in an episode that was recorded about a year ago!! (So if some of the references they make seem a little dated that's why)

Their first book is ALL-STAR SQUADRON #34, where the All-Stars face off against Tsunami -- which means tidal wave apparently. Word on the street, or at least the cover, is that it also means death. What did Scott and Mike think of the issue? And what did they think of Infinity Inc. #3, which has Solomon Grundy wants pants too? Listen and find out!

DO IT NOW!!

Hey, you waited like two years, what's one extra day?

--------------------------------------------------------

By popular demand and at the insistence of their publicist (and there might be a court order in there somewhere) Scott H. Gardner and Michael R. Bailey have brought back Tales of the Justice Society of America! Yes, indeed, ladies and gentlemen, Scott and Mike have returned. After a nearly two year hiatus and a couple of false starts the guys have gotten their act together and are once again talking about the adventures of the heroes from Earth-2. This time out they spend a good portion of the episode talking about the hiatus and the various attempts they have made to get the show going again. They also talk about the history of the show for those that are just discovering it. Once all that stuff is out of the way the guys get their feet wet with an installment of the newly minted Origins of Crisis on Infinite Earths. Scott and Mike have no idea how many of these there will be or if they will ever do it again but for the moment we’ll assume that there will be more of these sorts of episodes. The guys reach all the way back to 1965 and discuss Green Lantern #40! In that issue Alan Scott and Hal Jordan team up and then try to beat the snot out of each other all because of some guy named Krona. This issue is integral to not only the history of the DC Multiverse but also to Crisis on Infinite Earths as a story! The real question is this; was this book any good? Was it bad? Were there things they could poke fun at? The answer to those questions and more are locked within this episode!

In this episode Mike and Scott begin their new format, at least for the time being. Instead of covering one book an episode they are going to discuss a cover month worth of Justice Society related comics. This week that cover month is May 1984, which included All-Star Squadron #33 (where the Spectre gets whiney and the Freedom Fighters fight for...well, they fight for freedom...it is kind of in the name) and Infinity, Inc. #2 (where the Infiitors settles on a name and eat at a thinly disguised McDonald's). These books are a mixed bag leading to the usual mix of commentary and banter that you have come to expect from this show. You'll laugh. You'll cry. It will become a part of you.

Hand to God.

Next time: June 1984. Your reading assignments are All-Star Squadron #34 and Infinity, Inc. #3!

Scott and Mike head back to the forties this week to cover All-Star Squadron #32. Well, they get to that eventually. First they become sidetracked with Mike going on and on about some funny books he is selling on eBay and then they end up talking about the whole Before Watchmen thing, which was not their original intention. With all of that out of the way the guys dive into the issue and Mike ends up being a tad more critical of the artwork than Scott was. The story was cool though and we find out the back story of how Uncle Sam not only got a bunch of heroes killed but ended up getting the United States involved in World War II on an alternate Earth. Plus we get more of Hourman and Wonder Woman ties a few heroes up to get them to tell the truth, which is probably less creepy than it sounds.

You can check out Mike's eBay auctions by clicking on this link!

Tales of the JSA has reached yet another milestone!

Infinity, Inc. is here.

Scott and Mike kick this series off in fine style first by bringing back the original theme music to the show and then by spending the first twenty or so minutes of the show talking about stuff other than Infinity, Inc. #1.

This is how they roll. If you have been listening to the show for any length of time you should have expected it, really.

The guys begin the episode by talking about how sick they both are, proving that they are huge whiners. Then Mike brings up the recently announced Earth-2 related series that DC will be publishing in a few months. This is followed by talk of DC's new logo, which is not at vitriolic as you might expect. Then, finally, Mike and Scott cover Infinity, Inc. #1 and you will be surprised at how the guys feel about this first issue.

Next time: All-Star Squadron #32.

Awesome just knocked on Scott and Mike's door and thankfully they answered!

This week the guys cover All-Star Squadron #31, which not only has a bitchin' cover but is also the start of a bitchin' storyline. What happens when Uncle Sam shows up at the first official meeting of the All-Stars and says that he needs their help? Well, they argue about it actually. For several pages. Then there is a kick ass cliffhanger ending and Mike and Scott are once again excited about reading this title. They also discuss other aspects of the issue, the possible end of an American treasure and the future of this podcast.

Next time: The first issue of Infinity, Inc.!

This week Scott and Mike discuss All-Star Squadron #30, which features the Justice Battalion fighting against the Black Dragon Society. It also has a cover that begs the question, "What is so wrong with that?"

I mean look at that cover. Someone is trying to off Johnny Thunder. What's the big deal? Why is the Justice Battlion in such a hurry to save that man?

Sigh.

Anyway, the guys tackle something else in this episode which may result in it being the most controversial Tales of the JSA they have ever done. Roy Thomas addresses a part of World War II history that most people would probably like to forget and the opinions on that subject and on how Thomas handled it may not be popular.

But that is only one small part of the episode. Mostly it is Scott and Mike poking fun at the goofiness of the story and Mike complaining that it has been like three or four issues since we have actually seen the All-Star Squadron proper.

NEXT TIME: That changes next time as the guys cover All-Star Squadron #31, which features the first official meeting of that team and boy is the cover AWESOME.

It needs to be a T-shirt or a poster. It really does.

Scott and Mike end 2011 on a high note by looking All-Star Squadron #29, which is one of the best issues of the series ever! That fact is kind of odd when you consider the All-Stars don't make much of an appearance in the story but that doesn't matter because the focus of this week's issue is none other than the Seven Soldiers of Victory! That's right, Green Arrow, Speedy, Vigilante, Shining Knight, the Star-Spangled Kid and Stripesy (along with Wing) fight Dr. Doome (no foolin') and the greatest tyrants of history in a story that is liberally adapted from Leading Comics #3. The guys have a lot of fun talking about this one in addition to looking at the ads (SUPERMAN PEANUT BUTTER) and checking out what other titles were on the stands when this comic was published.

Next time: All-Star Squadron #30. It is a tad controversial.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

This week, Scott and Mike take a break from their normal coverage to bring you a holiday classic in the form of Brave and the Bold #184! The Huntress of Earth-2 visits her "uncle" Bruce on Earth-1 just in time for the Batman to learn that his father might have been backing a mobster making all of his work as the Dark Knight a lie! Can the Batman clear his father's name? And what does a reject from the old Dallas television series have to do with this? Well you'll just have to listen, folks! PLUS...a true Christmas surprise as Scott and Mike bring back a beloved segment that was the highlight (and some say the only good part) of the early episodes of this series!

Mike and Scott want everyone to have a happy and safe holiday season!

No really. They do. Promise.

Scott and Mike have returned once again to both entertain and amuse you. Whether or not they are successful at this is debatable but they are back to chat about All-Star Squadron #28, which is the second part of a two issue arc that the guys...didn't really care for. There was a lot to poke fun at this time too with Sargon the Sorcerer showing up, the JSA beings complete tools to the Atom and Dr. Mid-Nite once again piloting a vehicle when that makes no sense because the guy is frickin' blind. Oddly enough (or maybe not considering the history of this show) half the episode is spent talking about the ads and what else was going on in the DC Multiverse at the time leading to two HUGE tangents that will hopefully be a lot of fun.

Next time: Something special for Christmas!

Tales of the JSA is back!

Wait...Scott and Mike have been keeping a fairly regular release schedule as of late. So it isn't exciting that a new episode is up. They're just used to writing that the show is back.

Sad. Very sad indeed.

Anyway the guys talk about All-Star Squadron #27 this week and to be honest it wasn't all that good. There were some bright spots but about halfway through it becomes a Dr. Fate solo story and that just didn't get either Scott or Mike going. They have fun talking about it though and you even get to hear Mike have to admit that he was a bit of a dumb ass, which is always highly entertaining.

Next time: All-Star Squadron #28. Quick preview; the guys really didn't like that one either.

Welcome to the Black Friday edition of Tales of the JSA where you can get this episode for the deeply discounted price of free! And you didn't even have to stand in line. Aren't we awesome?

Anyway, this time out Scott and Mike finish off their look at 1983's JLA/JSA crossover with Justice League of America #220 and boy does it have a wonky damn revelation in it. Overall it is a very cool story and there is a lot of great action and art. That whole explanation on Black Canary's true origin? Wow. That was...wow. The guys try to make heads or tails of it and manage to succeed...somewhat. After a quick break with a bunch of awesome promos it is on to your e-mails and once again the discussion turns to DC, their adaptations and thoughts on Superman.

It's time to jump into the transmatter cube, y'all because another JLA/JSA crossover is upon us!

That's right, faithful Talesers, Scott and Mike are back again with the first part of a two part look at the 1983 Justice League/Justice Society get together. It didn't start out as a two-parter. In fact the guys really wanted to get the whole thing done in one so they could get back to covering All-Star Squadron but at the last minute Mike's work texted and said he had to be in two hours early proving they care nothing for you and your entertainment.

Oh well. Life goes on. At least Justice League of America #219 was freaking awesome.

Anyway, this time out the duel teams of Justice are attacked by the pink Thunderbolt of Johnny Thunder and it confuses the hell out of all of them because the Thunderbolt is a good guy, right? Anyway, the JLA is taken out early leaving the JSA to figure out what the hell is going on. Mixed in with all of that you get a really cool homage to the cover of Flash #123, Black Canary telling an off color joke, Starman trying to put the moves on Canary and we get yet another explanation of how the multiverse works.

Oh, and Chuck Patton does the art and HOT DAMN IS IT AWESOME!

Next time: Justice League of America #220 and the shocking secret of Black Canary!

Tales is back!

It is a few days late but it is back, so that counts for something, right?

Anyway, this time out Scott and Mike talk about All-Star Squadron Annual #2 which...wasn't all Scott and Mike wanted it to be. They didn't hate it, mind you and frankly they loved the art. The story just had some wonky parts to it that stood out and Mike and Scott lay all of them out for you in an amsuing and hopefully entertaining manner. Before that Mike talks about some of his recent acquisitions that are related to the Justice Society or All-Star Squadron and issues a buyer beware warning for a certain magainze that he and Scott normally like.

Hey there, everyone. Robin the Boy Wonder here to tell you why you should listen to the latest episode of Tales of the Justice Society of America. Batman was supposed to do this but he disappeared on me, so I have to fill in. This happens a lot actually. One minute we're fighting crime in Gotham City and the next thing I know he's spending hours in this funny looking place that has silhouettes of girls over the letters XXX on the windows. He spends hours in there and comes out smelling like cigarettes and booze. This doesn't factor in all of the times I had to stand outside of the Batmobile while he and Catwoman fought inside. At least I think they were fighting. That car sure was bouncing around but Catwoman kept begging for more and calling Batman, "Big Poppa," so I don't know what was going on there.

Moving on, Scott Gardner and Michael Bailey (who is short, just like me) have put out another episode of Tales and in that episode they dicsuss All-Star Squadron #26 and wouldn't you know it but I am right there on the cover, which is the bee's knees let me tell you. In the issue a bunch of other heroes and I team up to figure out where the disappearing heroes went. Mike and Scott talk about this issue a whole lot and go over why Scott doesn't like that Brainwave, Jr. guy while Mike keeps raving about the Guardian. They also discuss the ads, Mike's sexy voice and what else was going on in the DC Multiverse, whatever that is.

Next time: All-Star Squadron Annual #2!

Greetings, faithful listeners of Tales of the Justice Society of America. This is Superman speaking...or typing as it were. Actually I am doing neither of those things. See I've been a captive of the dastardly and oddly enough hot Ultra-Humanite for some time now and frankly it's getting a little boring here. There is literally nothing to do but watch Deathbolt do his best to try and create the beast with two backs with Ultra (which creeps me out no end) and occasionally tell Ultra that she/he/whatever is going to be defeated somebday.

Due to the wacky time travel nature to what is going on I have been able to catch full episodes of Tales and boy do Scott Gardner and Mike Bailey like to hear themselves talk. I tell you...those guys can take any subject and just blather on about it for hours and from what I understand there are those that actually consider this entertaining. I have to admit that I mostly tune out but in their latest episode, the one where they cover All-Star Squadron #25, I found myself totally immersed in what their discussion. Was it their somewhat humorous discussion of the issue itself? No. Was it their discussion of what else was going on in the DC Multiverse when this issue of All-Star Squadron came out? No. So why was I so damned interested.

BECAUSE THEY SPENT A GOOD BIT OF THE EPISODE TALKING ABOUT ME! THAT'S WHY!

See there was an ad for Superman III movie contest (apparently they make movies about me in the future) and this set them off on a long discussion of the film and just when you think that conversation is over it picks up again.

I swear...these guys need to do a Superman podcast together or something.

Anyway, enjoy the episode...as much as you can at any rate.

Next time: All-Star Squadron #26!

Tales of the Justice Society of America is back...just in time to fight your weekend boredom!

This time Scott and Mike cover All-Star Squadron #24, which like the previous handful of All-Star issues is composed of 100% kick-ass. Why? Well, for one thing Batman and Robin show up even though Robin is pretty reckless when it comes to the whole secret identity thing. For another thing Green Lantern does something that truly impresses both Mike and Scott. Also the Tarantula gets a new and totally bad ass costume.

Before the issue synopsis and commentary Scott and Mike give their thoughts on the upcoming Earth-2 based Justice Society book that was announced a few weeks back. There is little in the way of complaining and the conversation is pretty solid with less swearing than you might think. After the issue synopsis and commentary is the usual mix of ad coverage and Elsewhere in the DC Multiverse.

Next time: All-Star Squadron #25 and the first full appearance of...INFINITY, INC.!

Things are somewhat back to normal this week as Scott and Mike once again have control of their posts here at the main page and can stop worrying about super-villains hacking the Libsyn account.

For now...

Anywho, this week the guys talk about All-Star Squadron #23, which is the first appearance of the truly awesome Amazing-Man! A lot of the discussion centers around A-Man and why he is so cool, but Mike and Scott also discuss their thoughts on Dr. Fate, his whiny wife Inza, and why Deathbolt has such a thing for the Ultra-Humanite.

They also talk about something that could possibly be considered... offensive (but that was not the intent of the conversation, so please keep that in mind for that section of the show).

There is also late breaking news regarding All-Star Squadron and collected editions, so keep an ear out for that too.

Next time: Batman (and Robin) return in All-Star Squadron #24!

Greetings to the puny minded denziens of this thing you call the Internet. My name is the Ultra Humanite and I am the most awesome villain to ever exist. You will all kneel before me and my vast criminal mind! I now posses the Powerstone and...

Hey, hey, hey! Stop staring at my chest! Eyes up here, buddy. I may have the bodacious body of a forties era actress (thin waste, big hips, stacked like a brick outhouse) but I am all man in the cranium. So you just keep those dirty thoughts to yourself because I am not interested.

ANYWAY...

Apparently this is the site that hosts a radio program (or a podcast as you future people call it) that is all about the Justice Society hosted by two gentlemen (and I use the term loosely) named Scott and Michael. After listening to the latest episode I realized that they were talking about me during their discussion of All-Star Squadron #22 and I cannot let their insults go unchallenged. It is true that they discuss how Deathbolt and I soundly defeated Superman and the rest of the All-Stars but they also have the gall to mock me and my criminal genius. Sure I started out my bad guy career forming the Cab Protection League where I tried to force other cab companies out of business but that was just step one in a long and involved plan to take over the world. First the cabbies...then planet Earth! It is as simple as that.

I guess Michael and Scott cannot understand such things, especially since they spend most of the episode talking about comic book movies of the past few years and what problems they have had with them. They also discuss how Superman just doesn't get the respect he deserves, which is just wrong.

ONE DAY I SHALL HAVE MY REVENGE! UNTIL THEN, LISTEN TO THIS EPISODE AND THEN WRITE IN ABOUT HOW YOU AGREE WITH ME THAT I AM AWESOME AND THEY ARE SILLY!

Next time: All-Star Squadron #23 and the first appearance of my henchman AMAZING-MAN!

Greetings, everyone! My name is Superman and in addition to being the most awesome thing to ever happen to life on Earth I also guest star in All-Star Squadron #21, which happens to be the book Scott Gardner and Michael Bailey are covering this week on something called a podcast. I'm not entirely sure what that is because it is 1942 but I understand it has something to do with a computer. Mike and Scott must be wealthy to afford such things as a computer in this era takes up most of a city block. In any case, on this "podcast" thing Scott and Mike discuss how I team up with the All-Star Squadron and the Justice Society to fight a bunch of awesome bad guys. Hawkman and crew take on Cyclotron while Liberty Belle, Green Lantern and I fight Deathbolt, which sucks because I was totally going to score with Belle despite Green Lantern just HAVING to tag along, the jerk. One of my oldest villains shows up at the end too, so all in all this is one swell adventure.

After that the guys go on long tangents while supposedly covering the ads and talking about what else was going on in something called the Multiverse. They talk about arcades and video games and anniversary issues, which was all very fascinating and by fascinating I mean I fell asleep halfway through. Man those guys are chatter boxes. They do play a clip of my radio show, which was sixteen different kinds of cool. This episode might be long, but it sure is packed with a lot of...content. Yeah, I'll setlle with content.

Next time: More awesone Earth-2 action.

What the hell is Earth-2?

(cough...cough...blood...cough)

Hey there, folks. Brain Wave here again. I just got back from the ass whooping lynch mob that was the combined forces of the Jutsice Society of America and the All-Star Squadron who...well...they whipped my ass pretty good. Turns out I am not as smart as I thought I was. I thought I had everything figured out but then All-Star Squadron #20 went down and it turns out that a certain hero with an emerald ring screwed everything up for me. It was a pretty cool story, though. Scott and Mike of Tales of the JSA tell you all about it in their 54th episode. They cover the story from top to bottom and as usual talk about the things they liked and what they didn't like.

After that they talk about the ads of the book which once again sucked pretty hard. The Meanwhile column was cool but ever since those Hostess Fruit Pies ads dried up Mike and Scott have been kind of lost. Apparently dramatically reading those ads gave them purpose or something.

I think my ribs are broken. Someone should call a doctor.

Once the ads are finished the guys talk about what else was going on in the DC Multiverse and tackle three e-mails from the same guy, which sparks a lot of good discussion. I am sure Scott and Mike would like to thank Luke for writing in and providing that much grist for the mill.

........

...Sorry...lost consciousness for a while there. And I just soiled myself so while you listen to the episode I will seek medical assitance.

Next time: All-Star Squadron #21. It's pretty epic. Brain Wave out.

GREETINGS TO THE RABBLE THAT LISTENS TO THIS SHOW!

It is I...BRAIN WAVE...master criminal and three time winner of the Dr. Sivana Look-A-Like Contest and I have hi-jacked this entry to put you under my thrawl in my plan to take over the world! The small minded simpletons that host this show...Scott and Mike...have once again teamed up to yammer on about an issue of All-Star Squadron (issue 19 to be exact). In that issue I...BRAIN WAVE...have kidnapped the Justice Society of America, which is like the coolest thing ever, right? Anyway, the All-Stars show up and try to stop me but they can't because I am the most awesome thing to ever happen to planet Earth.

Ouside of talking about this issue Mike and Scott talk about a whole bunch of other stuff too and that is where the seeds of my takeover attempt will be planted. I have stolen this episode and laced it with subliminal messages that will cause you to bow before my large and sexy cranium! So when Scott is talking about the World's Fair or Mike is talking about...well...whatever the hell Mike talks about you will fall further and further under my control!

Resistance is futile! I control you and soon I will control the world!

Next time: Why am I bothering to write a next time? I will control planet Earth by then. Oh well, in case something happens and I haven't dominated the world Scott and Mike will talk about All-Star Squadron #20. And Mike will fight a bear.

TALES MAY BE LATE THIS WEEK BUT BOY WAS IT WORTH THE WAIT!

Well, Scott and Mike hope so anyway. This time out they cover All-Star Squadron #18 and boy is this another mixed bag. On one hand you have the origin of a new member of the team named Tarantula, which leads to a spirited debate about this "new" character. On the other hand the bad guy this time out is goofy as Hell and Scott pretty much hates him. Beyond that discussion (which will change the world as you know it) they do the usual ad coverage, explore what else was going on in the DC Multiverse at the time and then read more of your e-mails!

Next time: All-Star Squadron #19. Jerry Ordway takes over as penciller. This series just got even more awesome.

TALES IS BACK...BACK AGAIN...TALES IS BACK...TELL A FRIEND.

No seriously. Tell a friend. Scott and Mike want more listeners so that they can finally quit their jobs and take over the world.

Anywho...

Tales is indeed back with another fantastic episode which will, as usual, be the best thing to happen to you all week. In this episode Mike and Scott cover All-Star Squadron #17, which has a lousy cover but a freaking amazing story on the inside. This time out Robotman is on trial...for his very life. Seems some shyster lawyer wants to control the money Robert Crane (the guy Robotman was before he assumed room temperature and had his brain placed into a robotic body) left behind, so he's claiming that Robbie is a menace. The story is awe to the some, yo, but there are some problems and most of them revolve around Johnny Quick.

THIS EPISODE WILL FOREVER CHANGE HOW YOU LOOK AT LIFE! WE PROMISE!

Actually we don't, but listen anyway.

WELCOME TO TALES OF THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA'S 50TH EPISODE! AND BOY DO SCOTT AND MIKE HAVE A PACKED SHOW FOR YOU! THERE ARE GUESTS GALORE INCLUDING BEA ARTHUR AND THE 1972 MIAMI DOLPHINS PLUS ALL KINDS OF MUSIC AND MIKE EVEN FIGHTS A BEAR!

Wait a second...none that happens in this episode. And why?

BECAUSE MIKE AND SCOTT ARE DUMBASSES AND THOUGHT THEY WERE RECORDING EPISODE 49 EVEN THOUGH THEY HAD ALREADY DONE THAT!

Again...dumbasses.

Anyway, this is episode 50 and the guys cover ALL-STAR SQUADRON #16, which was...not the best example of why this series is awesome. Mike gives a quick book recommendation (leading to a tangent, naturally) but once the synopsis (where Mike seemingly ignores Scott) is over the complaining begins. From the Scooby-Doo nature of the story to the issues with time paradoxes to Liberty Belle's shocking lack of medical knowledge to Etta Candy to a FREAKING PIT OF FIRE UNDER A METAL FLOOR Scott and Mike just go to town on this story. It's not all bad though and there is even a tangent about Song of the South.

After all of that is the usual Elsewhere in the DC Multiverse and more of your e-mails!

Next time: All-Star Squadron #17, which is a much better story.

TALES IS BACK, EVERYONE, AND THE GUYS HAVE ONE MORE DETOUR TO TAKE BEFORE RETURNING TO THEIR REGULAR PROGRAMMING!

You would think that after going through an epic storyline like CRISIS ON EARTH-PRIME that the very next story would be just as epic, continuing an epic trend that redefines the very concept of epic. You'd like to think that, wouldn't you? Well... that doesn't happen here. Instead, Scott and Mike discuss ALL-STAR SQUADRON ANNUAL #1.

Don't get the guys wrong, this isn't a terrible issue. It has some impressive art and Mike is over the moon about the fact that the Guardian makes an appearance. The story isn't all that bad either, as we see three heroes (Wildcat, the Atom, and the previously mentioned Guardian) linked by a common bond. Green Lantern, Flash, and Wonder Woman team-up with said heroes to fight evil and stuff. In theory it should have been cool. It is the execution that left something to be desired.

Scott also says the words, "nut hugger." Mike is still uncomfortable.

Fair warning, folks... the language is a bit... saltier than it usually is on this show. Sure, Scott and Mike have a tendency to make sailors and truckers blush with their potty mouths, but this time it is a bit different. Maybe it is the fact that both of them were drinking heavily before, during, and after the recording session and considering the fact that Mike has the alcohol tolerance of a five year old Amish girl he shouldn't be imbibing anyway. So, keep this one away from the kids and throw on a pair of headphones if you are at work.

Because Scott and Mike care.

About what, they have no idea.

CRISIS ON EARTH-PRIME COMES TO AN END THIS WEEK WITH A CONCLUSION THAT WILL... FRUSTRATE THE CRAP OUT OF YOU!

Hey, everybody! Scott and Mike are back after a looong absence! Well, recording wise it was a long absence. There was a good two months between the time episodes 47 and 48 were recorded! The guys spend some time talking about this fact, even though this is the fifth new episode in a row.

Yet another new record. Yay, mediocrity!

Anyway, Crisis on Earth-Prime is wrapped up in Justice League of America #209, which should be sixteen different kinds of awesome, but that awesome-ness is mitigated by the fatal flaw of ALL Per Degaton stories. There is some fun commentary though, including why Professor Zee is the ultimate bad guy in all of this for being such a jackass to Per Degaton in the first place.

After that Mike and Scott read a few more e-mails, which leads into a rather long conversations about which characters are the pillars of the DC Universe.

Mike even sounds like he knows what the hell he is talking about. For once.

Next time: Episode 49 where Mike and Scott talk about the very first All-Star Squadron Annual!

CRISIS ON EARTH-PRIME CONTINUES!

Yes, indeed! Scott and Mike are back again and this time they brought All-Star Squadron #15, the penultimate chapter of this kick-ass storyline, with them! After a brief conversation about He-Man, the master of the synopsis himself, Scott Gardner, gives you the skinny on the events of the issue and, in all honesty, it was kind of a mixed bag this time out.

First, there is the unbalanced nature of the teams when the heroes split up. Then, there is the bizarre looking Per Degaton on the last page! Scott has some issues with the use of physics in this issue as well. There were some things to like, though, such as Superman taking charge and assuming a leadership role -- halfway through the issue...

After all of that, the guys look at the ads (leading to a confession on the part of Mike about Camelot 3000), what else was going on in the DC Multiverse, and a handful of YOUR e-mails!

This show is still the MOST FUN YOU WILL EVER HAVE listening to a podcast -- or your money back!!

Welcome to Episode 46 of Tales of the Justice Society of America!

This week, Scott and Mike aren't screwing around, Dear Listeners! There is no introductory discussion this week as the guys just jump right into the third chapter in the EPIC Crisis on Earth-Prime storyline.

Chapter Three takes place in Justice League of America #208, which boasts a fantastic George Perez cover featuring all of the main players completely mesmerized by the awesome 'fro that the mushroom cloud-headed Per Degaton is sporting. He is sure to be a hit with the ladies, assuming they don’t die of radiation poisoning first.

This exciting chapter of the story tells the full story of why Earth-Prime is a desolate, holocaust-torn landscape in 1982 full of mutants and Aussie ex-cops trying to get a tanker truck full of gas to those that need it despite the bikers that want to stop them is revealed. Or... something like that.

You'll love the funny bit involving a VCR! (If you don’t know what a VCR is, Scott and Mike suddenly feel REALLY old)

There is also a lot of fun discussion -- including a quick history lesson on how DC completely screwed over the history of Hawkman; a brief discussion on the movie Fat Man and Little Boy (which leads to a discussion on Star Trek: The Next Generation because for minute Mike and Scott thought this was Star Trek Monthly Monday or something); a reminder on why Per Degaton stories bother Scott and Mike; Mike’s terrible John Travolta impersonation; Don Heck’s artwork; why Firestorm is kind of like Geordi La Forge (because - again - the guys think this is Star Trek Monthly Monday); why Kennedy probably wouldn’t have nuked Earth-Prime; and so much more!!

The guys also read a handful of YOUR e-mails! WOW!!

Next time: All-Star Squadron #15, the penultimate chapter of Crisis on Earth-Prime!

WE'RE STILL BACK!

The best thing to EVER happen to the Internet returns for the second week in a row of brand spanking new episodes guaranteed to entertain you or your money back!*

(*Offer not vaild...anywhere.)

This week, Scott and Mike continue their look at the EPIC Crisis on Earth-Prime storyline that ran through All-Star Squadron and the first volume of Justice League of America. Part Two took place in All-Star Squadron #14 and, while it did not further the story all that much, it was still an entertaining read. Following the synopsis and notes section, Mike reads a missive from the letters page that leads to a rather lengthy discussion on why Nazis pretty much suck. After that, the guys take a look at what else was going on in the DC Multiverse at the time and even read one of YOUR e-mails.

WINSTON CHURCHILL HIMSELF SAID THAT THIS IS A GREAT PODCAST!

Or, y'know, he would if he wasn't all dead and stuff...

That's right, folks. Despite previous reports of the demise of TALES OF THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA the show is NOT dead. In fact, Scott and Mike are back on a WEEKLY basis so Fridays just got interesting again.

This time out the guys pick up where they left off, but surprisingly they will not be covering the next issue of ALL-STAR SQUADRON. Starting this week Mike and Scott will be covering one of the best stories to come out of this era of ALL-STAR SQUADRON...CRISIS ON EARTH PRIME. Not only is this a major story-arc for the All-Stars but it also crosses over with another DC title namely JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA! This is almost historic because while books crossover into each other all the time these days when this story was published it was like rare.

CRISIS ON EARTH PRIME begins in JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #207 and this one has it all, folks! The Justice Society! The Justice League! The Crime Syndicate! The All-Star Squadron (for all of five seconds)! Sonny and Cher! William Shatner! The 1972 Miami Dolphins! Paul Lynde! Bea Arthur! The Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders!

Ok, 95% of those people don't appear in this issue, but it's a pretty awesome story anyway. There is action, intrigue, super-heroes and time travel. All the things a growing comic fan needs.

Next Week: ALL-STAR SQUADRON #14 and the second part of CRISIS ON EARTH PRIME!

AFTER A WEEK OFF TALES OF THE JSA IS BACK!

So yeah...ignore the talk of Black Friday because Mike and Scott were expecting this episode to be up last week but it just didn't work out that way. Nevertheless the guys have returned and have brought All-Star Squadron #13 with them. This is a character driven story that gives us some down time after the "epic" battle the team had with Hastor. The reviews are mostly positive though Scott and Mike do get a little serious when discussing one of the main plot points of the story. This is as close as they ever want to get to an actual political discussion on the show. Other than that it is the usual mix of banter, snark, Elsewhere in the Multiverse (courtesy of Mike's Amazing World of DC Comics) and even a handful of e-mails there at the end.

HEADS UP, Y'ALL! REMEMBER TO ALSO LISTEN TO THIS WEEK'S BACK TO THE BINS FOR SOME MORE EARTH-2 GOODNESS! YOU'LL LOVE IT! MIKE AND SCOTT PROMISE!

Next week: The first part of Crisis on Earth Prime! Check out Justice League of America #207 for the first part of this truly epic storyline!

All righty...this show was rife with technical difficulties, so the usual posting fun has been suspended for the week. Just know that Scott and Mike talk about All-Star Squadron #12 and they didn't like it much.

TALES OF THE JSA is back again and this time...it's personal!

Well, maybe not so much personal as the issue Scott and Mike discuss this week isn't all that good. All-Star Squadron #12 was the third and final part to a story the guys didn't like so much, but as Scott says during the episode every series has it's "Spock's Brain". Topics include Hawkman's origin, why Captain Marvel couldn't be used in the series at the very beginning, the slowest space ship crash of all time and what the guys are looking forward to. They also head on over to Mike's Amazing World of DC Comics to see what else was going on in the DC Multi-verse during this story as well as reading a whole bunch of YOUR e-mails including an audio e-mail from Jon Wilson, he of Amazing Spider-Man Classics and Teenage Wasteland: An Ultimate Spider-Man Podcast.

TALES is back and this time we come in at just under an hour. Why's that? Well, this story isn't exactly the greatest, let's be honest. It's not terrible! Not by a long shot. But, at the same time, Scott and Mike didn't want to spend the whole time bashing it either because they really do love Roy Thomas as a writer... plus Mike had to meet up with his parole officer and he can't be late for that. They tend to throw him in jail and stuff. Anyway, we get more on the identity of the wacky alien what's come to Earth to start a ruckus. There's some fighting and, at the end, we find out who the ultimate bad guy is. Who is it, you ask? Well you'll have to listen to the episode and find out! Duh. Plus -- the guys look at the ads, the letters page, and even read some of YOUR e-mails. Next week: This story ends! Yaaaay!

WELCOME TO A HOPEFULLY RARE SOLO EPISODE OF TALES OF THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA! Scott is on hiatus but that hasn't stopped Mike from recording a brand, spanking new episode of TALES. There's no ALL-STAR SQUADRON talk this time out because Mike wants to hold off on that series until Scott gets back.

Instead Mike has gone back to the very beginning of Earth-2 with THE FLASH #123, which features the classic "Flash of Two Worlds" story. In that epic tale Barry Allen winds up on a world very much like his own but slightly different. On that world there is no Central City. Instead there is Keystone City, home of Jay Garrick the Golden Age Flash! Barry gets to meet his boyhood hero and even team up with him against the Thinker, the Fiddler and the Shade! It's a fun story that got the whole multiverse ball rolling. After giving you the lowdown on the story Mike has some notes to go through including the shocking absence of a certain term from the story, why Jay Garrick was so darn trusting and which villain Mike changed his mind about. Mike hopes that you like the show and will stick with the program while Scott is gone. Next week: Flash #129 and possibly #137!

WELCOME TO A SPECIAL EPISODE OF TALES OF THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA! It's a special episode because, unfortunately, one of the hosts is taking a bit of a hiatus. As Mike and Scott explain in the episode Scott has to take a little time off for personal reasons, so the foreseeable future Mike is going to be handling the show solo. All of the details are in the episode so listen out for that towards the end of the episode.

In the meantime enjoy this AWESOME episode as Scott and Mike discuss ALL-STAR SQUADRON #9, which sees not only the conclusion of the story started in the previous episode but also the conclusion of the previously untold story of STEEL, THE INDESTRUCTIBLE MAN.

The story sparks some interesting conversation too as the guys talk about the Holocaust, why beating on Nazis is the best thing ever and the possible secret relationship between Baron Blitzkrieg and his dwarf assistant. They also talk about the awesome showdown between Robotman and Steel and how creepy Robotman's face is.

Plus there is a rather long digression about the SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN and how shows the guys loved when they were younger hold up today. Finally there is ELSEWHERE IN THE DC MULTI-VERSE and that is pretty much that.

Remember, folks, Scott will return! Until then tune in every Friday as Mike holds down the fort as best he can. Reading assignment for next week: FLASH #123, "THE FLASH OF TWO-WORLDS"

YOU GOT THAT?!! GOOD! CUZ IT WILL BE THE MOST EPIC THING SINCE EVER ALL OVER AGAIN AND AGAIN!!

WAIT! BEFORE YOU LISTEN TO THIS EPISODE CHECK OUT BACK TO THE BINS #65! < YOU WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED!

WELCOME BACK TO THE MOST AWESOME PODCAST ABOUT THE GOLDEN AGE DC CHARACTERS EVER!

It is a lean and mean episode this week as Scott and Mike were pressed for time but it is solid nonetheless!

This issue, All-Star Squadron#8, kicks off with Steel fighting the Black Assassin, a villain Scott believes is misnomered because the guy ISN'T black (and if comics had taught Scott one thing, it's that if a character has the word "black" in their name then they are supposed to be black)!!

Then we get a re-worked version of the first half of the unpublished STEEL: THE INDESTRUCTIBLE MAN#6, which proves to Mike that his high opinion of Don Heck's work on STEEL was colored by Ordway's inks over Heck's pencils in this and the next issue of ALL-STAR SQUADRON.

So all of that is composed of pure, 100-proof awesome, right? Nothing could possibly mess that up, right? WRONG! Kung the Assassin shows up and stinks up the joint. Seriously. This guy sucks out loud. Thankfully this doesn't ruin the story and proves to be a mild speed bump in an otherwise fantastic issue.

The issue commentary is followed by a fairly long, but fascinating discussion on the merits of Jerry Ordway's current art, which leads to talk of Superman and Captain Marvel. It's a lengthy digression, to be sure, but was a lot of fun to record!

Finally, the guys dive into Elsewhere in the DC Multiverse and that rounds out the episode!

NEXT WEEK! ALL-STAR SQUADRON #9 AND THE END OF WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED TO STEEL!

YOU GOT THAT?!! GOOD! CUZ IT WILL BE THE MOST EPIC THING SINCE EVER ALL OVER AGAIN!!

ONCE AGAIN, THE MOST AWESOME THING TO HAPPEN TO THE INTERNET (SINCE FREE PORN ANYWAY) IS AVAILABLE FOR YOUR LISTENING PLEASURE!!

TALES OF THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA is back and Scott and Mike are both tanked up on Jolt cola and Hostess fruit pies, so this is going to be a good one!

First up, the guys talk about ALL-STAR SQUADRON #7, which is set during the Christmas of 1941 leading Scott and Mike to talk about the whole Christmas in July experience from when they were younger and lived in the north. They have predominantly positive things to say about the issue as a whole, mostly because it contains one of THE BEST Nazi themed super-villains ever -- BARON BLITZKRIEG! We even catch up on how the JSA is handling military life and are treated to a TRULY AWESOME sequence of Robotman beaching a Nazi submarine!! Does it get any cooler?!

Well, there's also the usual historical notes and commentary. There aren't much in the way of ads this week and, sadly, the guys discuss their (gasp, choke, sob) FINAL HOSTESS AD for this series!!

But it is a doozy , folks, and features the Dread Avenger hisself -- The Batman -- fighting a guy in a dog costume.

Not the Dark Knight's finest moment, I'll grant you, but it is made of 100% COMEDY GOLD!

After a quick break, the guys return with the Huntress back-up from WONDER WOMAN #277. It's a pretty basic story with the Huntress considering her options on what to do about the fact that D.A. Sims knows her secret identity -- and one of these options is... MURDER!! Also, we get the "big reveal" on just what is up with that secretary from Helena's law firm -- and this is where Mike really starts disliking the story, leading to one of the few big disagreements between Scott and Mike that was finally settled in The Thunderdome!

Two men entered and... well... two men left because Scott and Mike are really out of shape and got tired and decided to go have Mexican at El Ranchero in Peachtree City, GA (which is surprisingly close to Bartertown). Anyhoo, you get all of that!! AND some e-mails before the guys ran out of time -- but they promise to read even more e-mails next time!! How about that, huh?! NEXT WEEK: ALL-STAR SQUADRON #8

YOU GOT THAT?!! GOOD! CUZ IT WILL BE THE MOST EPIC THING SINCE EVER! NOTE -- The Two True Freaks! now have a phone line where you can call and leave a completely inappropriate message - We just might use it on the show! It's 585-COP-LURE!! ( 1-585-267-5873 )

"TALES OF THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA" featuring The All-Star Squadron RETURNS!

Yes, the internet radio show you just can't get rid of (and why would you want to?!) is back with EVEN MORE exciting World War II-era JSA adventures -- plus a bonus or two thrown in just because Mike and Scott love ya!

This week, the guys start out with ALL-STAR SQUADRON #6, which wraps up the Feathered Serpent storyline. This is a weird one because Scott and Mike have some fairly positive things to say about it (gasp!), but the problems were pretty epic. For one thing, the truth behind the Feathered Serpent is the worst kind of wonky and showcased one of several of Scott and Mike's least favorite comic book cliches (and, you know these guys, they spend a lot of time whining about it).

However, there is much gushing over NEW ARTIST Adrian Gonzales and his dynamic stylings. Plus -- The LISTENER-FAVORITE FEATURE -- The Hostess Ad!! This week: Featuring the Fastest Man Alive -- The Flash! With guest-villain Kenny Rogers as Dumbledore!

Stand by after the break for MORE of The Huntress back-up stories from Wonder Woman #s 274-276. This exciting story, which was a vast improvement over the last storyarc, sees the Huntress team-up with gal-pal Power Girl to fights... The Thinker!

This was a really solid story with a bit of a weak ending, and the art is a little odd in places, but STILL -- it was Power Girl and Huntress teaming up!! Sadly, there are no 'Cinemax-at-3-o'clock-in-the-morning' moments.

...bummer...

You get ALL of this PLUS listener feedback AND 'Elsewhere in the DC Multiverse', too!! Not a bad deal for just 3 easy installments of $99.95 each!!

Next week: ALL-STAR SQUADRON #7 and MORE of The Huntress back-up feature!!

WELCOME TO ANOTHER EXCITING AND FREAKIN' AWESOME EPISODE OF THE "TALES OF THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA"!

Sure, it's a tad late this week, but that's only because this episode is so amazing that the greatest of care had to be taken in the editing process!

Not buying it, huh?

Oh, well. It was worth a shot.

In any case, this week sees Scott and Mike continue their look at The ALL-STAR SQUADRON with issue five and boy, was there a lot to talk about in this one!! Not only do the Justice Society make a major decision affecting the future of that team, but a NEW HERO is introduced and -- she is HOT! No, seriously! (Her powers are flame based)

Beyond that, Mike admits his feelings about the villain known as the Feathered Serpent and the guys talk about the history of the Stature of Liberty! Thanks to Scott, the guys also present the complete speech President Frankling Delano Roosevelt gave to Congress on December 8, 1941. Scott also mentions the awesome Independence Day episode he recorded for "Two True Freaks!", so make sure you give that special a listen. It is kid tested, Mike approved, and you may find it here -- http://twotruefreaks.libsyn.com/index.php?post_id=627867

After the break, the guys discuss BRAVE AND THE BOLD #182. In this exciting issue, the Batman of Earth-1 teams up with the Robin of Earth-2 and, while you would think that such a team-up would be a mutual admiration society meeting, it turns out to be anything but!! For one thing, Robin has a mega-sized stick up his butt about Batman looking like... well... Batman!! Then there's the addition of the Batwoman of Earth-2 getting involved and she just brings nothing but creepy to the party. Sure, the concept is cool and the Jim Aparo art is sixteen flavors of greatness, but the wonky elements are definitely there and both Scott and Mike have a hard time downplaying them.

So, you get these TWO books, PLUS Elsewhere in the DC Multiverse, AND a whole slew o' e-mails! This episode has it ALL!! --- Well, except any Hostess Ads (queue sad trombone).

Next week: ALL-STAR SQUADRON #6 and ANOTHER "back-up feature" (that I don't know what it is yet)!

WELCOME TO YET ANOTHER INSTALLMENT OF EARTH-2 COMIC BOOK AWESOME SAUCE!

That's right, folks. This week, Scott and Mike hop back into the Flux Capacitor fueled 1991 Toyota Corolla (c'mon, like either one of these clowns could afford a DeLorean!) and head back to December, 1941 to talk about ALL-STAR SQUADRON #4.

In this exciting issue, the All-Stars head to Pearl Harbor and decide that it is high time to take the fight to the Japanese! Problem is that the Dragon King, evil agent of the Axis powers, is ready for them with the Holy Grail and a whole lot of pseudo-science/mysticism. This results in the most powerful members of the All-Stars going all evil and trying to kill their fellow members!

The conversation is fast, loose, and lively -- centering around the use of racial epithets in the context of stories set in the past and why Mike freakin' hates the Dragon King. PLUS -- there are ads (including a Hostess ad involving the Penguin where the Gotham PD actually does something for once in their miserable lives)!!

Also -- Elsewhere in the DC Multiverse!!

Then, it's back to the Corolla (which really sucks because, for some reason, when the car is idling the air conditioning stops working and hot air blows out of the vents!! It's summer, for crying out loud!! IT IS HOT!!) and a quick jaunt ahead to the somewhat more recent Earth-2 timeline where the fellas discuss the Huntress back-ups from WONDER WOMAN #271 through 273.

The guys don't have too much to say about this story because it is... well... goofy as hell. I mean, the main thrust of this story is the fact that Solomon Grundy is leading a gang and stealing art. Seriously. Solomon Grundy: Gang Leader. Who in their their right mind would belong to a gang led by Solomon Freakin' Grundy?! He's A Zombie, For Chrissakes!!

After trying to make heads or tails of that, the guys read some of YOUR e-mails!! Scott reveals his TRUE FEELINGS about the Super Friends -- during which Mike very nearly steps in it regarding the live action SHAZAM series, until Scott finally realizes the point Mike was trying to make -- and thus WAR is narrowly avoided.

TWO HOURS OF THE BEST PODCASTING YOU WILL HEAR ALL WEEK! Guaranteed or we start shooting the hostages!!

Next week: ALL-STAR SQUADRON #5 and BRAVE AND THE BOLD #182. Make sure you take some good notes because there will be a quiz!

Welcome back to the TALES OF THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA! This week, Scott and Mike continue their trip in the way back machine as they take a look at issues 2 and 3 of the ALL-STAR SQUADRON!! And, boy oh boy, were these two FANTASTIC and FREAKISHLY AWESOME issues!!

This episode concludes the first story arc for the All-Stars and, in true adventure series fashion, the action begins on one side of the country and ends on the other! The All-Stars, newly formed by FDR himself, are off on their first official mission, but not before taking a moment to beat the living bejeezus out of a group of thugs who picked entirely the wrong freakin' day in American history to try to pull off a job!! The All-Stars are soon bound for Frisco and we learn the origins of all of the heroes in attendance. As if THAT wasn't enough, we learn the hows and whyfors of Per Degaton's plans, too! Why is he attacking San Francisco? How did all of the villains appear out of their own times? Just who in the hell prints out the lettering for the self-destruct buttons? All of these questions and more are discussed!! (Notice we said "discussed", not "answered.)

But that's not all! There are ads!! Sad and pathetic little ads to be sure, but two of them ARE Hostess related and that can only mean one thing, gentle listener -- COMEDY GOLD! In these ads, you get Batman fighting a horrible film director and Red Tornado battles the fact that Mike and Scott are mentally fourteen years old. Plus, it's the return of Elsewhere in the DC Multiverse where Scott and Mike catch up on FOUR MONTHS worth of the other titles that were released alongside All-Star Squadron issues 1 through 3 -- and go on a series of tangents so wild you'll wonder if they forgot what the show was about...

Next week: All-Star Squadron #4 ...where All-Star BATTLES All-Star!! Be There!! Or I'm telling your mom!!

A BOLD NEW ERA BEGINS FOR THE "TALES OF THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA!"

This is it, folks! This week, Scott and Mike begin their look at the best Earth-2 title EVER... THE ALL-STAR SQUADRON! In this extra-sized episode, the guys kick things off in fine style! First, they talk about why this series is so important to them and why, in many ways, THIS is the podcast they've wanted to do from the start. You also get to hear about a piece of art Scott received that made both he and Mike laugh and laugh and laugh.

Then, they get down to business with ALL-STAR SQUADRON #0 (the bonus book insert in JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #193) where the members of the Justice Society of America are attacked by enemies they have never faced -- yet the villains seem to know the heroes well!! Then, in ALL-STAR SQUADRON #1, we meet the rest of the cast as the events of December 7, 1941 play out. But, who is this red-headed villain that has assembled a team of villains from the future? And what plans does he have for San Francisco? Find out in this exciting first issue!

But that's not all!! There are ads! Lots of ads! They aren't quite the ads of old, but there they are! And Mike and Scott present not one but TWO Hostess ads! The first with Green Arrow, who nearly bites off more than he can chew, and the second with Batgirl and a bunch of anorexic criminals who would rather eat than steal! Finally, the guys address some of YOUR e-mails!

This very special episode runs a little long, we know, but we're sure you'll agree that it is chalk full of that TALES OF THE JUSTICE SOCIETY goodness! Your complete satisfaction guranteed or your money back!! Stay tuned in the weeks and months to come as Mike and Scott delve deeper into the World War II era Earth-2!!

Welcome to a kind of... off-beat episode of the TALES OF THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA!

This week, Scott and Mike continue their examination of other JSAer/Earth-2 related stories by focusing on the Golden Age Green Lantern himself -- Alan Scott!!

First, the guys look at THE FLASH (Vol. 1) #268 and, to be honest, this comic turned out to have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with Alan Scott!! Oh, sure the Golden Age Green Lantern is right there on the freakin' cover, but it all turns out to be a trick!! An evil, evil trick. And not only that, but the story itself sucks so badly it actually has its own event horizon!!

Then it's on to the Golden Age Green Lantern back-up stories from GREEN LANTERN (Vol. 2) #s 108 to 110 where the Earth-2 GL has to fight for his life against another bearer of the Green Flame!!

Finally, in Green Lantern #s 111 and 112, the Earth-1 and Earth-2 Green Lanterns team-up and, wouldn't you know it, Green Arrow hangs around like the fifth wheel he is. Seriously, the dude serves no function to the story whatsoever. Okay, so he shared top billing with Green Lantern on this title... but still!! C'mon! He's just so freakin' annoying!! Anyhow, this adventure does deal with an alien entity stealing the Starheart. What's the Starheart, you ask? Well, you'll just have to listen to find out now, won't you?

Be sure to stick around afterward as Scott makes a STARTLING ANNOUNCEMENT CONCERNING THE FUTURE OF TALES OF THE JSA PODCAST! YOU MUST HEAR THIS!

THE TREK THROUGH THE SIDELINE JSA EARTH-2 STORIES CONTINUES THIS WEEK ON "TALES OF THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA"!

Yes, indeed, cats and kittens!! Scott and Mike are back this week -- slightly late because Mike has HORRENDOUS time management skills! Never fear, though. Scott hired some big guy who's middle name is "The" to... explain... yeah, explain, that's the best way to put it... "explain" to Mike that the listeners NEED their TALES OF THE JSA!!

Hopefully Mike will recover in time to record the next episode...

In any case -- this time out, the guys turn their attention once again to The Huntress and look at The Dark Knight's Daughter's butt... er, I mean, appearances! Her appearances! ...in BATMAN FAMILY!!

Starting with BATMAN FAMILY #17, The Huntress meets the Earth-1 Batman and Robin for the First Time (where she promptly knocks the Teen Wonder on his ass)!! Seems the Huntress wants some advice from the Caped Crusader on how to deal with this whole double-life thing. And so, the kindly Batman promptly passes her off to somebody else! Specifically, the Earth-1 Batwoman! Then proceeds to take on a bad guy with SERIOUS body image issues.

In the next story, we flash back to a sixties-style adventure in which bad girls Madame Zodiac, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy team-up and only the heroic trio of the Huntress, Batwoman, and Batgirl can handle them!! Your intrepid hosts have problems galore with this particular story, mostly because it's goofy as hell, but also because Helena Wayne discovers the truism that -- if an Earth-2 character goes to Earth-1, they will surely be as mistreated as a red-headed step-child!! For example... remember how Batman dumped Huntress off on Batwoman? Well, Batwoman immediately turns around and pawns Huntress off on Batgirl!! And Batgirl, also the daughter of a Gotham City Police Commissioner, is SO freakin' condescending to the Huntress!! Seriously! What the HELL is THAT all about?!!

So then, the guys turn their attention lastly to BATMAN FAMILY issues 18 through 20, in which Helena graduates to her own feature for the last three issues of the series. And boy, is it a really good story!! Seriously! Sure it kinda feels like a television super-hero pilot from the late '70s, but that actually makes it all the more awesome. In this one, The Huntress takes on an arsonist setting fires in a Gotham neighborhood, all while having to put up with a co-worker that deserves the ass-kicking to end all ass-kickings. Scott and Mike really dig into this one and even end up talking about vigilantism and speculating about just how many people the Golden-Age Batman and Superman may've let die during their early days. The guys also debate The Huntress' fate post "CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS". Those "fascinating" conversations are followed by some ads and...

We are VERY pleased to announce... THE RETURN OF THE HOSTESS AD!!

Yes, indeed!! The ads hawking high calorie, low nutrition snacks are back, baby!! And this time, it is Aquaman and Aqualad in an adventure that once again, stunningly, makes a good deal of sense -- much to Scott and Mike's chagrin.

Believe it or not, the five stories (and two panels) covered this episode equal only about two regular issues, so this episode comes in at a normal running time for a change (well, at least as normal as these blabbermouths can manage anyway)!!

Next Week -- The guys cover some adventures of Alan Scott, The Earth-2 Green Lantern, in both GREEN LANTERN and THE FLASH! See you then!!

Hey there, Cats and Kittens! We are back with racks and racks of the best on wax, so hows about another groovy sound-spin on WJSA because it's BOSS?

No? Awright, awright, so maybe we DON'T have racks and racks of the best on wax, but we DO have The Origin of Power Girl in Showcase Comics 97 through 99 this week and BOY.. is it "meh"!! Compared to the Huntress Origin, which the guys LOVED so much, it's pretty disappointing. Mike and Scott were expecting PG's origin to be just as good. Sadly, not the case (queue the sad trombone). Now, the issues aren't terrible or anything, but there is a LOT of goofy going on in them (some of which makes Mike just scratch his head and wonder "What the hell am I lookin' at here?!").

Afterwards, the guys come back with a bit o' e-mail from THE BEST LISTENING AUDIENCE IN THE KNOWN MULTI-VERSE! Subjects include: "Guy Gardner -- The Awesomesauce or Captain of the Douche-Bag Brigade"?; Scott's curiosity over where the JSAers were during the Space Race; Why one listener REALLY likes the show (the check is in the mail, Justin); How Power Girl is a very "healthy" girl and some women just need to eat a frickin' cheeseburger now and again; And the irony of the JSA's faithful service to their country all during World War II, yet they were called on the carpet by the guv'ment in the Fifties!

Oh, and Mike goes off on a rant. A political one, which made Scott happy because he was tired of being the only one to do such a thing!

Next Week: The Huntress In BATMAN FAMILY! BE THERE!! Aloha.

ARE YOU READY FOR MORE JLA/JSA AWESOMENESS?

Here is the final installment of The TALES OF THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA's three-part look at the Justice League/Justice Society team-ups that took place after ALL-STAR COMICS #58!! This time, Scott and Mike are REALLY FREAKING EXCITED because BOTH of these stories feature art by the one and only GEORGE PEREZ! Not only that, but the stories are freaking amazing, too!

In the first story, the two teams of Justice come face to face with the New Gods as they fight to stop Darkseid from destroying EARTH-2! Sure, there are a few problems with the story (Scott takes issue with Superman whining about feeling like an outsider and Mike thinks that the New Gods were best left to Kirby), but there is a whole lot of fun in this tale and the art, after the first issue, kicks up to 11 because... did we mention that George Perez came on as artist during these stories? We did? Well, we're going to say it again because GEORGE PEREZ IS COMPOSED OF 100% AWESOME!

Then, there's what Mike believes to be the BEST JLA/JSA TEAM-UP of all freaking time (and Scott pretty much agrees)!! It's the JLA and the JSA versus the NEW Secret Society of Super-Villains in a yarn that is damn near perfect from beginning to end! Not only do we get to see a really great team of villains being assembled, but we also get to see the Earth-2 Superman as drawn by George Perez!! Did we mention George Perez? We did? Well, that's because GEORGE PEREZ IS COMPOSED OF 100% AWESOME!

This is a beast of an episode, clocking in at nearly two hours, but we feel it is totally worth it! In fact, we guarantee it or your money back!!

Next week: THE RETURN OF LISTENER FEEDBACK!!

THE JLA/JSA CROSSOVER AWESOME SAUCE CONTINUES THIS WEEK!

Scott and Mike are back again, fresh from their escape... I mean release... yes... release from that loony bin... I mean mental health facility... yes... mental health facility... and there was no escape at all. Mike and Scott didn't stick the pills they were given to take under their tongues and empty the contents into a napkin and then drug the night attendant and then rip the water fountain out of the floor, throw it through the window, and flee into the night. None of that happened and if anyone asks you about it you don't know anything, all right? All right.

Um, anyway... this week, the guys continue their look at the Justice League of America /Justice Society of America crossovers that took place after ALL-STAR COMICS #58 with two stories -- one that involves time travel and another that involves the Justice Society being real douche bags to a fellow hero!! In JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #s 159 and 160, heroes from the past (including one of Scott's all time favorites, Jonah Hex!!) are used by the Lord of Time to mess with the JLA/JSA. There's a lot of wonky in this story, and Scott has far more to say about it than Mike, but what's new, right? RIGHT? :taps microphone: Is this thing on?

Then, in JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #s 171 and 172, the teams get together and, as per usual, someone dies!! For once, it's NOT one the "escorts" that Batman brings around and that tend to end up crushed and mangled after Superman gets into the Captain Morgan. This time, it's... well, I'd say it was a member of the JSA, but Mister Terrific, as Hawkman is so quick to point out after Terrific assumes room temperature, wasn't "really" a part of their little clique now, was he? This is an old-fashioned, closed-door murder mystery with Batman and the Huntress trying to figure out who did the deed, leaving Scott and Mike to try to figure out why the Justice Society were being such utter dicks to a fellow super-hero. Seriously!! They cut this guy ZERO freaking slack and then, after he dies, they act like it's no big deal!! Frankly, the guys are surprised that they put any effort into solving the murder at all!!

Lastly, be sure to join Scott and Mike next week as they look at the final two JLA/JSA crossovers that occur "before" ALL-STAR SQUADRON!! One involves Darkseid, the other involves the Secret Society of Super-Villains!! Be there (or Mike and Scott will short-sheet ya)!!

And lo there came a day... a day like other Fridays... where Scott Gardner and Michael Bailey band together to discuss the adventures of the single greatest super-hero team of all time...THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA!

This week. Scott and Mike begin their look at the legendary (or maybe not-so-legendary) team-ups between the JSA and the JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA in their own title! This time out, the stories are... well, they don't suck (for the most part), but they don't exactly set Scott and Mike on fire with excitement, either (though they hear that there's ointment for that now).

In JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA #s 135 thru 137, the heroes of Earth-1 and Earth-2 team up with the heroes of Earth-S and Boy, is this goofy!! I mean, for one thing, two of the characters are named Mr. Scarlet and Pinky, the Whiz Kid. You just can't make that sort of thing up!! This story also promises the FIRST titanic meeting between Superman and Captain Marvel!! And what should have been the throw-down to end all throw-downs... sadly, wasn't.

Then, in issues 147 and 148, the JLA and JSA team-up once again. Only this time, they are joined with the LEGION OF SUPER-HEROES to battle Mordru!! Mike and Scott really don't have a whole heck of a lot to say about this story because, frankly, it was the very definition of "meh". Oh, sure... they talk about how Power Girl seems to have some sort of freaky, unnatural, backwoods, redneck attraction to the Earth-1 Superman, but, for the second time this episode, what should have been an EPIC storyline involving the greatest heroes of three eras... sadly, wasn't.

Oh, and Scott meets his idol at show's end... but it doesn't go well...

"Required Reading" for next week -- JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA(Vol. 1) #s 159, 160, 171, and 172!!

Welcome to Episode #23 of "TALES OF THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA", which sadly sees the closing of the first era of this podcast as we cover the last two JSA stories from ADVENTURE COMICS. At least 27 minutes of audio had to be cut because Michael couldn't stop crying like a big baby. Before that happened, though, Scott and Mike read some more of YOUR e-mails and the usual subjects of the JSA appearance on SMALLVILLE and BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD came up in addition to other musings from the BEST PODCAST-LISTENING AUDIENCE IN THE KNOWN MULTI-VERSE!!

Then, the guys get right into ADVENTURE COMICS #s 465 and 466! In #465, Mike and Scott scratch their heads a lot at the general goofy nature of the story and ask seemingly unimportant questions like -- WHY IN THE HELL IS A HOSPITAL DEVELOPING A POISON PILL THAT'LL DISSOLVE IN FIVE HOURS AN KILL THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE?!! In issue #466, they discuss the REAL reason the JSA disbanded in 1953! The guys love this story despite a few nit-picks (but what else is new, right?).

Also in this episode -- THE ADS RETURN! Whoo-hoo!! THERE'S EVEN A HOSTESS AD -- THAT DOESN"T INVOLVE BASEBALL! Plus, Mike and Scot catch up on the "Elsewhere in the DC Universe" segment (including some issues they missed last month, the fools!).

So, :sniff, sob: The JSA's ongoing adventures may be over (for now), but there is still A LOT of awesome to come!! "Required Reading" for next week -- JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA (Vol. 1) #s 135-137, 147 & 148, and 159 & 160. That's right, folks! You asked for it and they're bringing it! Scott and Mike WILL be tackling the JLA/JSA crossovers that took place AFTER the release of ALL-STAR COMICS #58.

Scott and Mike are back once again to discuss the greatest super-hero team to ever grace the printed page, The JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA! This week we have another episode jam-packed with comic book-y goodness!

First off, the e-mails from the most amazing and AWESOME listening audience in this or any other universe! The talk is fast and furious and includes more discussion on such varied topics as BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD, what sort of metal music Hawkman would listen to (Scott thinks Carter would be a Winger fan), how a meeting of the JSA might go if the Flash got called out for his... er, self-indulgences... and much, much more!!

Then it's on to Adventure Comics #463 and 464 (which feels a lot like the ALL-STAR COMICS #76 it was probably intended to be). In 463, the JSA seek vengeance for the Death of Batman, but man is this a wonky story!! It feels like there must've been some scenes cut out of it, so hopefully there'll be a special edition DVD at some point. Oh well, at least we get an explanation as to how Dick and Helena get their secret identities back.

After that, in 464, Wildcat goes out for a night on the town with a teenage boy.... uh, waitaminute... that sounds bad. All right, let's try that again. Wildcat declines an invitation to hang out with Robin, Power Girl and Huntress and ends up meeting a teenage boy on the street. Ummmm... That's not much better. Okay, here it is... Wildcat goes out to clear his head and ends up having a conversation with a teenage boy that is totally on the up and up and NOTHING INAPPROPRIATE HAPPENS! WE PROMISE! The fact that Wildcat quits the Society after this is a TOTAL COINCIDENCE! Yeah, that works...

No ads again this week, dammit, but they will return next week as does the Hostess ad! Whoo-hoo! And, as always, Mike and Scott take a stroll through the other books that came out from DC at the same time.

So go on... listen already!

Enjoy!!

This week...the Death of a Legend!

No, we're not talking about Scott finally losing at the Loudest Belch In America contest, which he has won for the last five years in row, or Mike stepping down as the official "I Can't Believe I Ate The Whole Thing!" mascot for Papa Johns. This time out -- one of the original heroes of Earth-2 dies!

Before that, though, Scott gives you the 411 on the marriage of the Earth-2 Superman to Lois Lane in the pages of ACTION COMICS #484, which leads to some lively conversation between the hosts. Then it is time for the e-mails. Thrill to the readings of feedback in which two participants climb up on the soapbox leaving Scott and Mike to delightedly cheer them on!! Truly, Tales of the JSA has THE BEST LISTENERS EVER!

It's been proven by science, I tells ya!

Afterwards, the guys move into issue 461 and 462 of Adventure Comics and boy, did they like this story! Oh, sure they have their fair share of pithy comments and Mike offends every listener with an overbite!!

(Seriously, just because the guy had a really bad overbite when he was a kid, now that his teeth aren't all jacked up he feels like he can make fun of others??!

Mike can be such a jerk sometimes.)

The guys also tackle the tough issues... like how Jay Garrick is an insensitive ass or Wildcat's politically incorrect opinion on "a woman's place" or how everyone wears their costume even when they're eating or why Chief O'Hara is an out and out coward or how Bill Jensen is a big fat whiner or, sadly, how a legend can die.

It's really very sad. Yes, it is. Bring your hankey.

Lastly, the guys go over the Daily Planet page from Adventure Comics #462 before catching you up on "Elsewhere in the DCU". Man, there some fantastic covers discussed! Epically awesome covers! Plus, Mike gets to bitch about something that has ALWAYS bothered him about the movie THE LOST BOYS and discover why Scott still wants a comic book adaptation of SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE and ponders the dream team that should produce it.

No Hostess ad this week. Yeah, the guys are pretty bummed about it too...

Welcome back to the best thing to happen to comics since... well, since ever! TALES OF THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA is back and this week Scott and Mike are all business, turning in a lean and mean episode as the show reaches its first bittersweet milestone -- the final issue of All-Star Comics!!

Yes, you read that right, folks. Sadly, ALL-STAR COMICS reaches the end of its run with issue #74 and while the cover proclaims this issue "an EPIC JSA story", the contents seem to indicate otherwise. Not that it's a bad story, mind you! Mike and Scott have just a few problems with it. Ok... maybe more than just a few problems with it... :sigh: okay, okay... a whole lotta problems with it!! Like, for example, how Dr. Fate is a big ol' hypocrite. Or Hawkman's massive ego. Not to mention the fact that... you guys are so not gonna believe this... the JSAers sit on their hands and do nothing! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!! This issue was a super-sized mixed bag of messed up, but Mike and Scott cover it all including -- the ads (which have a ton of info about the very short lived DC Explosion)!! No e-mails or Hostess ads this week, but this episode is still sixteen different flavors of awesome!! Satisfaction guaranteed or your money back!! Offer not valid in Tennessee. Void where prohibited. Tales of the Justice Society of America is not responsible for improper use of this podcast. Side effects may include: runny nose, tears streaming down face, aching side muscles, the condition known as doubled-over back syndrome, and assorted other maladies associated with laughing too frickin' hard. CALLING ALL JSA FANS! CALLING ALL JSA FANS! The time has come once again for us all to come together and celebrate as Michael Bailey and Scott H. Gardner proudly present the nineteenth episode of the best thing to EVER happen to the Internet -- TALES OF THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA! Whoo-hoo!!

It is a packed ninety minutes this week, but every bit is guaranteed to leave you spellbound with intrigue or your money back! Scott and Mike begin the show by revealing not only the winner of their first contest (you know, the one they talked about once and then never mentioned again?), but also the super-secret identity of just where the heck the show's main theme comes from!

Then Scott goes through a couple of recent finds and once again they are reminded just how messed up Dr. Fate's origin and marriage are. Next up are the ever-awesome e-mails where YOU the listener get to have your say and the guys once again go off on a number of tangents, but manage to contain themselves somewhat better than they usually do!

It's down to business as they get into the penultimate issue of All-Star Comics with issue #73. This epic tale concludes the Thorn storyline and sees the Huntress (no, the other one!) locked in mortal combat with the Huntress (no, the OTHER one!) while the rest of the JSA battles with both Thorn and the Sportsmaster all while Wildcat fights for his life! Mike doesn't have too many problems with this issue, but Scott (as usual) has quite the list of quibbles -- all of which are pure comedy gold! Finally, we have the ads and there are some good ones this week, including a Hostess ad featuring the Man of Steel hisself...

Remember last week when we said that episode 17 was the greatest thing to happen to the Internet EVER? Well, frankly... we lied!! Because THIS EPISODE IS THE GREATEST THING TO HAPPEN TO THE INTERNET EVER!!!! Mwwwwaahahahahahahaha!!!

Scott and Mike kick things off with e-mails and there is more talk of the JSA on the TV, which includes more on what problems Scott has with the BRAVE AND THE BOLD, a discussion on what sport produces the best athletes (hint: there are skates and a lot of fighting and no, the guys don't talk about Tonya Harding!), and a few minutes on whether or not Earth-2 should come back!! Also, Mike challenges Scott to a no-holds barred, over the top, best of the best, roadhouse style debate on Guy Gardner! Finally, a listener brings up the geek elitism topic again and Mike is reduced to tears!

Actually that doesn't really happen, but it's still a darn good e-mail at any rate.*

Then the guys jump into ALL-STAR COMICS #72, which sees the JSA fighting the deadly Thorn! Commentary on this rather good issue includes, among other things, the wonky artwork, Flash's inappropriate behavior at the group meeting, the Huntress being one of those obnoxious new people at work that ten seconds after being on the job starts trying to tell everyone what's what, an odd tangent on Dick Grayson's fighting ability, and whether or not Jay Garrick dyes his hair.

And BECAUSE YOU DEMANDED IT!! -- Mike and Scott cover the ads! And what awesome, awesome ads they are. Ads for a Star Wars club. Ads for cool looking comics. Ads that show how dysfunctional the Marvel Family was. Also the fantastic DAILY PLANET page with more ASK THE ANSWER MAN questions! And of course... the Hostess ad.

Sadly, Scott and Mike have to actually work hard to point out the messed up things in this ad because oddly enough it actually makes sense!! Well... mostly.

However, this one more than makes up for that...

* Note: Mike does the editing on this show, so the thirty minutes of Mike sobbing like a five year old whose blanket was taken away has "mysteriously" disappeared. Take that however you want to.

Another Friday, another EXCITING and UTTERLY AWESOME Episode of TALES OF THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA! We present to you a more normal-sized episode this time out, but that doesn't mean that it isn't THE BEST THING TO EVER HAPPEN TO THE INTERNET... well, until next week's episode anyway!

Scott and Mike lead things off with more of the fantastic e-mails that just keeping pouring in, which drives their unpaid intern to distraction but makes the guys happy as pigs in slop. EPIC discussion topics generated by your feedback include: non-sports trading cards; whether or not the original Bruce Wayne is corrupt; aging on Earth-2; the body odor of Swamp Thing and Solomon Grundy (those guys STINK!); the iPad and how may impact the future of the paper comic book; and even some more BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD and SMALLVILLE: ABSOLUTE JUSTICE talk!!

Then the fun really ramps up with a look at ALL-STAR COMICS #71. Thrill to how Mike and Scott talk about the many faces of the Huntress! Thrill again to the reasons why the Earth-1 characters don't get called in as back-up! Thrill a third time to why Superman and Wildcat are mean drunks!

Finally, the ads come fast and furious and, in addition to hearing about which version of the future Scott wants to live in, there is the Hostess ad!! Surprisingly, this is the most coherent one yet.

HEY, GUYS! (And gals, too). Here 'tis... yet another awesome, jam-packed, high-octane, four-on-the-floor, pedal-to-the-metal (Mike reeeeally likes these car analogies, which is kind of ironic when you consider he really doesn't care all that much about cars) episode of TALES OF THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA!

This week we present another extra-sized episode as Mike and Scott deal with even more of YOUR excellent e-mails and boy-o-boy do Scott and Mike have some great ones this week!! The guys dive head first back into the hot-topic debate that they accidentally sparked regarding Geek Elitism. There are some tears and some laughter, a few cheap shots at Scott's expense, and a good ol' fashinoned two-men-enter, one-man-leaves trip to The Thunderdome to see who rules Bartertown! All of this a result of the awesome e-mails the show receives, so keep 'em coming, friends!! Next it's on to ALL-STAR COMICS #70, which once again features a cover boast of an appearance by the Huntress yet once again she is barely in the issue. There's also some speculatory talk about what Santa Claus does in the off season and they also pose the serious question of what the hell is up with the Star-Spangled Kid and his piss-poor work ethic! And, of course, there are ads!! Yyyyyyyesssssss!! And there are some really good ads this time 'round, too! Ads that threaten to bankrupt Mike because he wants all of the comics that are shown! These are the type of ads that lead to a strong desire to see the ultimate showdown of might versus magic in --Superman VS. Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer! SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY! It's heat-vision versus a very shiny nose!! Be there! Ahoha!

Last, but never least, your favorite feature returns -- The Hostess Ads. And, once again, said ad begs the question -- "Just what the hell were the folks producing these ads smokin' when wroting these things?!!"

Yes, Virginia, that is the Penguin with coo-coo clock/bird hybrid abominations as his henchmen!

You can't make this shit up, I swear.

Hey, Kids!! What time is it? It's "Tales of the Justice Society of America" time, of course!! (kinda like Peanut Butter Jelly Time only longer and less annoying)

This is kind of an odd episode, but don't let that scare you because -- Hell, they're ALL odd episodes, right?!! Don't tell me you hadn't noticed. Anyhow, there is a LOT of awesome Justice Society talk to be had this time 'round, beginning with a "thought provoking" discussion about precisely which team Power Girl "plays for" romantically-speaking. Then, the guys dive into the two big JSA TV appearances of late -- the SMALLVILLE "movie", "ABSOLUTE JUSTICE" (which, wonder of wonders, miracles of miracles, Scott actually watched and has some good things to say about!) and "The Golden Age of Justice" episode of BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD (in which Mike and Scott debate the merits of the series as a whole and Scott speaks of his "issues" with the show). The conversations range from talk about Lois Lane (including just how incredibly hot Dana Delany really is) to just what the guys thought of this first live-action interpretation of their beloved JSA.

There are also e-mails galore, which the guys love reading on the air so keep 'em coming, and THEN -- The Main Event -- Scott and Mike discuss DC SUPER-STARS #17, featuring the origin of the Huntress!

Last but not least -- the feature you just can't get enough of -- The Hostess ads!! Yup, they just continue gettin' weirder as -- (gasp!!) Wonder Woman fights a billboard! Heh, we couldn't make this shit up if we tried

Well, it's Friday once again and that can only mean one thing! No, not that it's time to go get hammered and pick up a stranger at a singles' bar!! It's time for the latest and greatest episode of the World's Most Superexcellencious Podcast* -- 'TALES OF THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA'! Whoo-hoo!!

Scott managed to get Mike to lay off the Wild Turkey for a day and crank out another installment and this one features one of the best issues of ALL-STAR COMICS yet! But before all that, there are the fantastic e-mails where Scott gets to lay some love on the much-maligned STAR TREK V: THE FINAL FRONTIER. Also, a listener gets a little creepy -- leading Mike and Scott to seriously consider filing for yet another restraining order.

After that -- ALL-STAR COMICS #69, where the guys once again ask the hard questions -- such as, why is Power Girl such a freakin' big mouth?!

But wait...there's more!! Act now and you also get Scott and Mike going over some truly awesome ads including -- the EXCITING RETURN OF THE HOSTESS ADS!

Shudder at the aweseome menace of --- ICEBERG HEAD!! (Has Aquaman ever had a really good villain?)

Hey! HEY!! The week ain't over yet, fanboy! Not until you've had your heapin'-helping of another fun-filled, exciting, and thrill-packed episode of TALES OF THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA!

Scott and Mike kick lucky #13 off with still more of YOUR thought-provoking e-mails and have SO MUCH FUN reading and discussing them that they spend over an hour doing so! Yikes! A whole lotta ground gets covered, including a discussion of geek elitism and just exactly why Mike HATES Johnny Thunder with the fire of a thousand suns!! (He has anger management issues, folks)

After that, the guys discuss All-Star Comics #68 and ask the HARD QUESTIONS!! Such as -- What the hell did the Gotham Airport do to piss off so much Alan Scott anyway?! -- And -- If nothing less than a bursting shell can break Power Girl's skin, why does simply running into a wall knock her the f*** out?!

Sadly, no Hostess ad again this week (there really oughta be a law!), but there was a TON OF AWESOME going on elsewhere in the DC Multiverse and so the guys try to take some consolation in covering that.

All of this PLUS -- Mike and Scott fight a grizzly bear with nothing but guts, determination, and a spork!!

Just kidding on that last one... or -- are we...???

It's that time again, folks! No not Miller Time, you lush! I'm talking about "Tales of the Justice Society of America" time! Whoo-hoo!!

This week, Scott and Mike kick things off with more of YOUR e-mails and the usual discussion/tangents/rants that they inspire. Listen to hear The Amazing Scott predict something eerily close to the I-Pad well before it was even announced!!

Then, it's on to DC Special #29 which features the Most Sensational Secret of World War II -- The Untold Origin of the Justice Society and how they came to be!! See (or at the very least hear anyway) how it all began as the guys cover this spectacular issue from top to bottom -- including Mike proving that he does indeed have a very large chip on his shoulder when it comes to proving how what a big comic book brain he supposedly has!!

Special appearance by Uncle Adolf!!

After that are the ads and, sadly, they're not quite up to par. I mean, For Pete's Sake, there wasn't even a Hostess ad in this one (which Mike and Scott are fairly certain violated some law from this time period)!!

All of this -- PLUS -- What else was lookin' good in the DC Multiverse at this time!!

:Sigh: I still can't get over there not being any Hostess ad in this issue. That's just downright Un-American!

Scott and Mike kick this episode off by going through some of the awesome e-mails that have accumulated over the past few weeks. That is, I suppose what Scott and Mike do could technically be called just reading e-mails. Other people might call it a more of a two-man support group as the guys get a whole LOT of stuff off their chests -- which was exasperated by the fact that both of them were in VERY foul moods before they even began recording (these are two grumpy ol' bastids, don't forget!).

Afterwards, they delve into All-Star Comics #67, which, SHOCKINGLY, the verbose ones don't have surprisingly little to say about!!

Are they ill??!! Listen to Find Out!!

And, of course, they love you so there is another hilarious Hostess ad this week -- which begs the question: How precisely pray tell do you steal a F***ing Mountain?!!

Pigeon Person is stealing the mountain, why is she stealing the mountain?*

The latest "Tales" is up and ready for download! So what the hell are you waiting for??!!

This week, Scott and Mike go off on a number of lovely tangents, including why Batman is a super-hero, dammit!! They also discuss the final story from All-Star Comics #3 (the first appearance of the JSA), which concerns the original Emerald Gladiator -- GREEN LANTERN! Then they dive into All-Star Comics #66, which is an important issue not only because it has awesome Joe Staton/Bob Layton artwork but also because the name "Super Squad" is dropped from the book like a bad habit. Yaaay!

There is also the Character Spotlight feature (profiling Hawkman this time 'round) and a brand-spanking-new segment where Scott and Mike spend some time seeing what else was going on in the DC Multiverse at the time this issue of All-Star came out.

Oh, and there are the ads. Oh boy, are there ads!! Including -- a Batman and Robin Hostess ad (which should surprise no one really since Batman and Robin starred in like 98.7% of all Hostess Ads, even the ones that appeared in Marvel Comics)!!

This wacky episode begins with a discussion of Chewbacca's comic book dialogue and just gets weirder from there. Hosts Michael Bailey and Scott H. Gardner bring you yet another exciting chapter in the ongoing saga of comicdom's first super-team!! First up, Michael recounts The Atom's Indiana Jones-esque adventure from All-Star Comics #3 (the JSA's very first get-together). Then it's on to the feature event, an in-depth discussion of All-Star Comics #65 where we find Superman battling for his very life against the fiendish schemes of Vandal Savage!! Character Spotlight this issue zooms in on Alan Scott, the ORIGINAL Green Lantern, and last but not least -- BECAUSE YOU DEMAND IT! -- still more zany comic book ads!!

In "That Dirty Beach" (hey, that's seriously the title! I don't make this shit up, okay?), We find out that Aquaman and Hostess Twinkies are the reason why we continue to have used rubbers and medical syringes washing up on our shores...

This episode, we start out with Scott H. Gardner answering the burning question -- "What's in the ***ing box?!" -- which inadvertently sets Michael Bailey off on a tirade about event fatigue in modern comics. Then the discourse gets slightly...ummm, elevated with a...er, firm offering of up-lifting adventure with a cocksure Dr. Fate battling evil with a wave of his "magic wand" from All-Star Comics #3 (the JSA's very first adventure).

The main feature is an analysis of issue #64 of All-Star Comics in which our heroes travel back to the magical kingdom of Camelot!! Character Spotlight this issue on Sir Justin, the Shining Knight, and last but not least -- BECAUSE YOU DEMAND IT! -- still more zany comic book ads!!

While elsewhere in Gotham City Firefly burns a Senior Citizens Community to the ground, Batman and Robin battle the macabre menace of -- "The Muse"!!

Why can't super-villains simply be content to rob banks and leave Earth's orbit and its supply of Hostess Cupcakes alone?!

In this hilarious episode, hosts Michael Bailey and Scott H. Gardner read some listener feedback, take a peek at a portion of a classic JSA adventure, review All-Star Comics issue #59, deliver some JSA news, character spotlight one of Scott's all-time favorite comic book heroes, the Earth-2 Robin, examining both the similarities as well as the vast differences between him and his Earth-1 counterpart, and finally wrap the whole thing up with a fascinating discussion of the classic and often zany comic book ads found in these great old issues -- such as The Battle of The Century and The Cupcake Caper!!
